Medicare Sequestration Update

Audience: Participating Audiologists, Certified Nurse Midwives, Chiropractors, Nurse Practitioners, Physical Therapists, Podiatrists and Psychologists

In our communication to you dated January 27, 2022, we shared the intention of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) to resume the application of sequestration in 2022 for Medicare Advantage claim payment.

Consistent with CMS, Excellus BlueCross BlueShield Medicare Advantage claim payments will begin reflecting a 1 percent sequestration reduction effective April 1, 2022.

As you may know, CMS intends to make additional sequestration changes for Medicare Advantage claim payments in 2022. Excellus BCBS will continue to mirror CMS’ application of sequestration, where applicable, following the same effective date as CMS. If CMS postpones its resumption of sequestration, Excellus BCBS will follow suit.

Please share this important information with anyone in your practice who should be aware. If you have questions or concerns regarding these updates, contact your Provider Relations representative.

Thank you for your continued participation with Excellus BCBS and for the quality care and service you provide to your patients, our valued members.
